Celebration of Black Music in Film at the Richmond Symphony

Journey into the rich musical heritage of Black cinema and discover such iconic soundscapes as Luther Vandross’ work on The Wiz, the funk of Isaac Hayes’ Shaft, and others including Get Out, Superfly, Crooklyn, Do the Right Thing, Purple Rain, Dream Girls, and many more. Soul-stirring melodies in this celebration of the artists who fused film, rhythm, and music. Richmond’s own Butcher Brown makes a cameo appearance with the Symphony. Produced by James Crump-Wallace, co-founder and Creative Director of The Spot RVA.

Annual MLK Day of Service at Oakwood Arts

Location: Oakwood Arts 3511 P St. Richmond, VA 23223

This MLK Day, we’re coming together to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service and community engagement. Join us for an afternoon of impactful activities, including:

  • Creating art kits for local youth
  • Participating in clean-up initiatives around the OA neighborhood
  • Supporting the Giving Library with donated items

How You Can Help:

  • Volunteer: We’re seeking enthusiastic individuals to help run the event and capture photos/videos for social media. Bring friends and family—this is a perfect opportunity to serve together!
  • Donate: We’re collecting winter clothes, toiletries, art supplies, and books for the Giving Library. Donations can be dropped off before the event. Let’s make a difference together!
